DESCRIPTION:SR 110 Municipal Solid Waste Landfill  |  Saturday\, June 13  |  8-11 AM  |  Free  |  Open to kids 16 and under \nCast you excitement for the 32nd Annual Kids Fishing Derby hosted by the Camden County Solid Waste Authority.  The derby will be held on Saturday\, June 13\, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the SR-110 Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill. The SR-110 MSW Landfill is located on Georgia Highway 110 in southwest Camden County\, approximately 2.75 miles north of the intersection with Georgia Highway 40. 2750 GA-110\, Folkston\, Ga 31537. \nThe Kids Fishing Derby is supported by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA-DNR) program that helps stock ponds across the state to promote youth fishing. According to GA_DNR Wildlife Resources Division\, “Fishing together with your child and family can build some powerful memories. Research shows that most people are introduced to fishing by a family member\, and most consider a family member to be their best fishing friend. \nParticipants should be their own fishing poles and chairs. Prizes will be awarded for long fish\, heaviest fish\, most fish caught\, and youngest angler. Challenge yourself to kayak the 7 miles from historic St. Marys\, Ga.\, to the DD Bartles Boat ramp in Fernandina Beach\, Fla. (Note the change in the finish line from previous years). \nThis year proceeds from the paddle will support Building Battle Buddies\,  a newly established veteran 501(c)(3) from Nassau County that trains and provides service dogs for veterans throughout Florida and Georgia. \nTo register\, visit www.paddleguru.com and select Cross the Line Paddle for Veterans 2026. Kayaks can be rented and delivered directly to the start line through Amelia Island Kayak Excursions or through other kayak companies in Nassau County. Registration will close on June 10.   Shirts will NOT be available for anyone registering after June 2\, 2026. \nPacket Pickup and Vessel Drop-off:   \n1 N. Front St.\, Fernandina Beach\, FL 32034 (Directly across from Salty Pelican)\nThursday\, June 11\, 2026 –  1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.\nFriday\, June 12\, 2026 –  8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon \nNOTE: The first 100 Kayaks/Paddleboards will be loaded in the truck on Friday after 12:00 noon for transport to St. Mary’s.  Anything after 12:00 noon will be the responsibility of the paddler to get their kayak to St Mary’s.  The first 100 paddlers to register will receive a complimentary ride on the Amelia River Cruise to the starting point in St Mary’s. \nPre-Paddle Instructions:\nThe Amelia River Cruise boat will depart Dee Dee Bartels Boat Ramp at 7:00 a.m. sharp. All remaining participants should be at the dock at St. Mary’s GA\, no later than 7:30 a.m.  The race will begin at approximately  8:00 a.m.  The race course time limit will be 5-hours maximum.  Any paddlers in the water after 5-hours will be assisted off course by safety boat crew. \nPost-Paddle Party:  1 p.m. at Leddy’s Porch\, Florida House Inn\, 3rd St.\, Fernandina Beach\, Fla. 32034. Together\, you’ll take the ferry from downtown St. Marys before exploring Cumberland Island’s Dungeness ruins (home to the famed Carnegie family)\, as well as the island’s maritime forest\, marshes\, and the longest stretch of undeveloped beach in Georgia. \nWhile this field trip is open to all ages\, please know you will walk more than five miles from one ferry stop to another\, some of it on loose sand on an undeveloped island. There will be plenty of water and snack breaks\, as well as time for lunch. This trip will happen rain or shine.
