The nuclear-powered attack submarine was lost during its return voyage from a Mediterranean deployment\, and all 99 crew members remain on what submariners respectfully call “Eternal Patrol.” The cause of the tragedy remains one of the Navy’s enduring mysteries. \nHosted at the submarine-themed Horse & Cow Pub & Grill — a gathering place filled with naval history and submarine memorabilia — the evening will begin Friday\, May 22\, at 6 p.m. with a moment of silence honoring the fallen crew\, followed by a toast to heroes on Eternal Patrol. Approximately 29 soldiers of the American Revolution\, as well as soldiers from all wars fought by our country lie in peaceful repose under the beautiful live oaks which shade their rest. The City’s ties with the ocean and rivers are obvious from the markers in honor of captains\, seamen and fishermen. \nThe tour is free\, but donations will be accepted and will be used for repairing monuments in need. \nSpace is limited and reservations are required. To reserve you space\, call 912-882-5301. If there is no answer\, please leave a message with your name\, the number of people in your party\, and a telephone number you can be reached in case of cancellation due to bad weather. \nPlease park on the Weed Street side of the cemetery and meet at the main entrance gate there. The tour will last approximately an hour and a half or as long as questions keep coming. \n
