Woodbine Rail-Trail & River Walk

Embark on an unparalleled outdoor adventure with the Georgia Coast Rail-Trail. This Rails to Trails initiative of the Coastal Georgia Greenway Trail offers a picturesque route that will eventually span 68 miles from Kingsland north to Riceboro. This lush corridor traverses a stunning landscape of longleaf pine forests, marshlands, and sawgrass, meandering across tidal rivers and creeks along the way. Following the path of an abandoned CSX rail corridor, the trail is designed to accommodate walkers, cyclists, joggers, equestrians, and nature enthusiasts alike. Ensuring the preservation of wetlands and wildlife habitats, the trail offers unmatched natural scenery, providing a serene and immersive experience for all who visit.

Currently only two portions of the Rails to Trails initiative have been completed and opened for traffic – the Woodbine Rail-Trail & River Walk traces the path of the old railway, extending from 11th Street to the north all the way to the picturesque Satilla River. The trail, which is paved for ease of use, provides a scenic and enjoyable route for walking, running, and leisurely strolls. Along the trail, visitors will find the convenience of two comfort stations equipped with restrooms and water fountains, catering not only to human hikers but also to their furry companions. One comfort station is located at 8th Street, with another positioned just before the trail meets the river, ensuring a pleasant and refreshing experience for all who explore this charming trail and riverwalk.  Extend your adventure and travel along the White Oak Rail-Trail portion, spend time fishing at the Satilla Waterfront Park, or enjoy a picnic in the Woodbine Theater Park, located near the 11th St trailhead!

Visitors to the Woodbine Rail Trail & Riverwalk may also delight in the abundant wildlife that thrives along the trail and the scenic Satilla River. Birding enthusiasts will have the opportunity to spot a diverse array of avian species, including herons, egrets, and various migratory birds, as they soar above the tranquil waters. Additionally, the river offers ample opportunities for fishing, with anglers drawn to its serene banks in pursuit of various fish species. While meandering along the trail, keep an eye out for sightings of river otters, turtles, and other fascinating wildlife that call the river and its surrounding ecosystem their home, adding a touch of natural wonder to the overall experience.
