The Cumberland Island museum houses a collection of artifacts from Cumberland Island and is open and free to the public. The collection covers the timeline and people of the island. Some of the residents of the island include Native Americans, African Americans, the Stafford’s and the Carnegie family, as well as others who lived on the island in the 19th and 20th centuries. An exhibit room on The War of 1812, the “Forgotten Invasion,” is certainly a highlight. Continue your exploration of the area with a trip to Cumberland Island, or stay mainland and visit the St. Marys Submarine Museum and St. Marys History Walk, both just around the corner from this museum.
