Cycling Adventure: Savannah to Kingsland

Cycling the East Coast Greenway Trail from Savannah to Kingsland

Our journey began in the charming city of Savannah, Georgia, where the cobblestone streets and historic architecture provided a picturesque backdrop for the start of our cycling adventure along the East Coast Greenway. With our bikes loaded and spirits high, my wife and I explored the natural wonders that awaited us on this expedition.

Leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind, we pedaled southward, following the meandering paths of the East Coast Greenway as it led us through coastal marshlands and verdant forests. The air was alive with the scent of saltwater and the songs of shorebirds, a symphony of nature that served as the soundtrack to our journey.

As we cycled through the Lowcountry landscape, we were treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding wetlands. Sunlight danced upon the water’s surface, casting shimmering reflections stretching to the horizon. This sight filled us with awe and deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, reminding us of our small place in this vast and magnificent ecosystem.

As we continued our journey, the scenery shifted subtly, revealing each region’s unique charm. From the quaint fishing villages of coastal Georgia to the sprawling beaches of the Golden Isles, every mile brought with it a discovery – a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered. This sense of constant exploration and the thrill of the unknown kept our spirits high, and our curiosity piqued.

Arriving in Kingsland, Georgia, after days of cycling, we were greeted by the warm hospitality of the locals and the promise of relaxation in our cozy hotel. But our adventure was far from over – Kingsland held its own treasures waiting to be explored.

The following day, we set out to discover the natural beauty of Crooked River by bike. The marshes teemed with life, and the air was alive with the calls of migrating birds. My wife, a passionate birder, eagerly took out her Nikon camera to capture the avian spectacle, adding to her growing collection of wildlife photography.

One of the highlights of our stay in Kingsland was our visit to Cumberland Island, which is accessible only by ferry. As we cycled along its sandy trails, we were greeted by wild horses grazing amidst ancient oak trees and pristine beaches. It was a scene straight out of a postcard, a reminder of the untamed beauty that still exists in our modern world.

We immersed ourselves in Kingsland’s local culture and cuisine in the evenings. One night, we enjoyed a romantic dinner at Angelo’s Italian Restaurant, savoring every bite of pasta and sip of wine. Another evening, we were drawn to OPS Pizza, where live music filled the air, and the aroma of freshly baked pizza crusts tantalized our senses.

As our time in Kingsland came to a close, we both felt a deep sense of thankfulness for the experiences we had shared and the memories we had made on this unforgettable journey. From the sun-kissed paths of Cumberland Island to the tranquil biking trails of Kingsland, our cycling adventure along the East Coast Greenway was an escape into the beauty and diversity of nature. And as we pedaled homeward, I knew the road would always beckon, ready to lead us on our next great adventure. This sense of wonder and contentment was the perfect ending to our cycling odyssey.
