Celebrating Carol Ruchdeschel and Cumberland Island at St. Marys Waterfront Park

Celebrate the life, work and 85th birthday of renowned Cumberland Island conservationist Carol Ruckdeschel during a special community gathering at the St. Marys Waterfront Park pavilion.

Ruckdeschel has spent decades studying and advocating for the natural resources and wildlife of Cumberland Island. The celebration will recognize her conservation work and many accomplishments while giving guests an opportunity to meet her and learn more about her life on the island.

The event will include live music, guest speakers, a video presentation and a food truck. Copies of A Natural History of Cumberland Island, written by Ruckdeschel, and Untamed: The Wildest Woman in America and the Fight for Cumberland Island, by Will Harlan, will be available for purchase and signing. Guests who already own copies are welcome to bring them for signing.
