Pick It Yourself

Merck Farms

A longtime local favorite for u-pick produce, Merck Farms opens based on crop availability—so timing is everything. As of late March, strawberries and carrots are already making an appearance, with more on the way. Expect a full spring lineup that can include potatoes, onions, squash, zucchini, green beans, cucumbers, sweet corn, and even purple hull peas as the season progresses.

Insider tip: Merck typically announces their u-pick schedule the night before, so check their Facebook page regularly throughout spring and plan to arrive early morning for the best selection.

Vacuna Farms

If berries are your thing, Vacuna Farms is one to watch. Their blueberries and blackberries usually begin ripening in mid-to-late April and can continue into July. They often sell plants and seasonal vegetables alongside u-pick offerings, so you can take a little of the farm home with you.

Insider tip: Flash freeze your pickings and enjoy them year round! Berries can last up between 6 and 10 months in the freezer without losing their flavor or nutritional value.
