Cumberland Island is accessible only by passenger ferry or private boat. The Cumberland Island Ferry, the National Park Service’s official concession-operated ferry service, departs from downtown St. Marys and provides round-trip transportation to Cumberland Island National Seashore. The scenic ferry ride takes approximately 45 minutes each way.
Once on the island, visitors can explore historic sites, hike through maritime forests, enjoy undeveloped beaches, watch for wildlife, camp, bike, and take in the quiet coastal landscape. Whatever your adventure may be, you’ll find plenty to explore on Cumberland Island.
The reservations office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ferry service varies seasonally, so check the Ferry Service Schedule when planning your visit. Advance reservations are highly recommended.
